Florian Zachmayer, CFO der Nürnberger Wach- und Schließgesellschaft mbH freut sich über die ausgeglichene CO2 Bilanz des Unternehmen
Fokus Zukunft attestiert NWS den neutralen CO2-Fußabdruck
Climate change represents the greatest challenge facing humanity since the end of the Ice Age and is the defining task of our time. The consequences of global warming are becoming more and more noticeable and the pressure on politics and companies is increasing – not least due to the Fridays for Future movement. There is now global consensus that man-made climate change must be counteracted as a matter of urgency. The success of emission reductions essentially depends on the voluntary and consistent action of the economy in the industrialized countries.
For this reason, the Nuremberg security guard and locking company has had greenhouse gas emissions caused by the company’s activities recorded and offset them by purchasing a total of 12,000 climate protection certificates for the years 2021-2024. With these certificates, the company supports a wind energy project in China and a hydropower project in Vietnam, which were certified by CER under the authority of the United Nations. After avoidance and reduction, the company’s CO2 footprint is approx. 2,049 tons of CO2 equivalent pollutants per year. In addition, around 500 tons of CO2 equivalents are offset, which result from the use of service providers and the production of technical security solutions such as alarm systems. The Nuremberg security guard and locking company has decided to round up the emissions determined in connection with its activities and is therefore already compensating for the years 2021 to 2024 the annual sum of 3,000 tons of CO2 equivalents. To illustrate: On average, a person in Germany causes about 11.6 tons of CO2 per year through their lifestyle.
The present greenhouse gas balance of the security service provider gives a transparent overview of the emission of greenhouse gas emissions. The report thus forms an important building block in climate protection commitment. On the basis of the determined values and by purchasing a corresponding number of climate certificates, the company was made climate-neutral. The Nuremberg security guard and locking company received the “climate-neutral company” award for compensating for greenhouse gases.
CFO Florian Zachmayer, who is also responsible for the environment in the company, explains why Nürnberger Wach- und Schließgesellschaft mbH is committed to global climate protection: „The world community has agreed that global warming should be kept below 2 degrees Celsius – better yet to 1.5 degrees – must be limited to prevent catastrophic consequences. However, the current pledges made by individual states are only sufficient to limit warming to a maximum of 4 degrees. Closing this ambition gap requires additional and significant commitment from companies and citizens. We have recognized that voluntary emission reductions and the offsetting of unavoidable emissions are essential in order to be able to effectively counteract climate change. As a company, we also take responsibility for the world that we leave to our children and grandchildren. That’s why we decided to neutralize our CO2 emissions. This is how we lead a contribution to a future worth living. Because we not only want to analyze the problems, but also tackle and solve them. This is unique in our industry and we want to set a good example.”
